Jack Black - Jack Black I Was A Drug-taking Teen

JACK BLACK was a wild teen who took drugs and stole from his own mother.

The Kung Fu Panda star considers himself lucky to have survived a "reckless" adolescence, growing up in California - but insists he was no different to most youngsters.

Black says, "I'm lucky to be alive - I don't think I was completely sane. They should have put me in jail. Plus, I was doing coke and sniffing glue, I stole from my mum. It was a bad time, but most teens have reckless spells."

The song they didn't write? Coldplay are accused of plagiarism by American band

It was all going so predictably well. Coldplay's new album went straight to No 1 on Sunday, selling 300,000 copies in three days; concerts sold out; that iTunes ad was everywhere. Even their notoriously sniffy critics in the music press seemed, with the odd exception, unusually muted.

Then, things took a sudden turn for the worse – with a plagiarism row.
Yesterday, the band was forced to issue a categorical denial of allegations
that they copied the title track to their new record, Viva La Vida Or Death
and All His Friends from a little-known US group, Creaky Boards.

In a video posted on the video-sharing website YouTube, Andrew Hoepfner,
Creaky Boards' singer and songwriter, claimed that the melody of Coldplay's
song, "Viva La Vida", is pinched from a track he wrote last year
called, ironically, "The Songs I Didn't Write".

He blamed Chris Martin for the alleged artistic theft, saying that Coldplay's
frontman attended a Creaky Boards concert in New York last year. "We
were flattered when we thought we saw Chris Martin in the crowd," said
Mr Hoepfner. "He seemed pretty into it... Maybe TOO into it?"

The clip, which was first posted on Sunday, rapidly went viral. By last night,
it had been watched by nearly 300,000 people, many thousands of whom had
typed comments remarking upon the various similarities between the two
tracks. In an industry where even small chord sequences can become subject
of costly copyright disputes, allegations of plagiarism are as potentially
damaging to a musician's finances as they are to their reputation.

Little surprise, then, that Coldplay responded with a vigorous denial. "We
totally refute their claims, and there are two facts that make it easy to
disprove them," said the band's spokesman Murray Chalmers. "First,
on the night in October when the band say Chris Martin was watching them, he
was actually working at the Air Studio in London, and we can prove that.
Second, even if he had been at the gig, "Viva la Vida" was written
and demoed seven months before the night in question, so it couldn't
possibly have been copied."

Sources close to the band said they were unlikely to pursue legal action
against Creaky Boards, since it would "look bad" to start a David
versus Goliath lawsuit against a group of young musicians. They are,
however, pushing for them to publicly withdraw the allegations of
plagiarism.

The two tracks have different lyrics, say the Coldplay camp. Although certain
elements of their melody sound remarkably similar, the band say this is due
to simple coincidence rather than a case of artistic theft.

Either way, the trite nature of Mr Hoepfner's video clip has succeeded in
gaining a new following for his band, and was driving traffic to their
MySpace page. The YouTube video concludes: "I wish Coldplay the best of
luck. If they ever want to collaborate, I've got some microphones we could
use in my bedroom."

Creaky Boards' video outlining the similiarities between the two songs

Coldplay are recording several live TV performances to promote their record in
the US, but are steering clear of major interviews, following last week's
incident on BBC Radio 4 when Martin walked out of an interview with the arts
show Front Row, saying he did not like "having to talk about things".

Guns N' Roses to finally release new album?

Guns N' Roses are reported to have finally completed their long-awaited album, 'Chinese Democracy'.
Frontman Axel Rose has spent nearly 15 years working on the album, which will mark the band's first new material in over 16 years.
The band's last studio release was 1993's punk covers album 'The Spaghetti Incident'.
Lead singer Axl Rose has repeatedly delayed the release of 'Chinese Democracy' because of band member changes and personal reasons.
However, Rose's manager Beta Lebeis has told Metal Hammer magazine that the record was completed before Christmas and that "everybody knows that".
Rose is currently arranging details for the album's release date, which is rumoured to be late summer.

Paltrow may have another child

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that she and husband Chris Martin of Coldplay may have one more baby, and that she is also open to the idea of adopting a child.
Speaking about whether she would have a third child in an interview with fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar that will be published in the July edition, she said: "I may force myself to do it one more time because the result is so worth it."
On adopting a child, she added: "I do feel we're so fortunate, and we kind of owe it to humanity. We have a lot of love to give and a lot of resources."
Paltrow also spoke about the difficulty of returning to movie making after a four-year break.
The 'Iron Man' star said: "In this business, they don't look back, and they're particularly harsh to women. I'm not 25; I'm 35. I'm not someone to discover; I'm someone who people know.
"I mean, it's all ego, but you start to feel like, 'Oh, no, I worked so hard to get somewhere, and what if I can't get back there again?' But, all the while knowing that, I would never have traded one second or done anything differently."

Hotline: Garden rocks like it's 1989

The Celtics [team stats] are headed for an NBA Finals showdown with the Lakers, the Bruins [team stats] were ousted from the NHL playoffs by the Montreal Canadiens and Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Madonna, George Michael, Tom Petty and New Kids on the Block are all coming to the Garden.
It really is the late 1980s all over again.
Turner and Bon Jovi are the latest to announce arena gigs at TD Banknorth Garden, joining their ’80s brethren (some of whom never really went away) on Causeway Street. Turner struts into town on Nov. 16;, tickets go on sale today (via Ticketmaster) at 10 a.m.

Bon Jovi has two dates, July 9 and 10, with tickets going on sale May 19.
Much like the Celtics and the Bruins, arena gigs are suddenly fashionable again. And with the likes of Coldplay (Nov. 3) and Celine Dion (Aug. 12) also headed to Causeway, the arena will have few off nights.
The latest rumored Garden gig? Janet Jackson. This summer.
Stay tuned...
Williams fans just download it
If Saul Williams’ goal of lacing up a pair of Nikes and providing the soundtrack to the company’s new $20 million ad campaign was mainstream exposure, the politically-charged Brooklyn rapper and poet has succeeded.
Six weeks after his raucous battle song “List of Demands” was first added to Nike’s “My Better” advertising launch, it’s sold roughly 60,000 units online.
“List of Demands” was first released in 2004 through the Fader label. While it made Williams an underground cult figure, it failed to break into the mainstream. Pulling in some digital download loot for “List of Demands” could help offset the cost of Williams’ latest album, “The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust,” which he initially released through his Web site for free, with a suggested payment of $5.
Sparks’ 21-show salute
Even though the British pound is knocking the stuffing out of the American dollar, this is worth a trip to England: Russell and Ron Mael, the wacky, innovative brains behind Sparks, the greatest British band to come from America, are up to their old tricks. The duo is presenting the 21-night Sparks Spectacular in London beginning Friday and running through June 13. They will perform all 21 of their LPs - an album a night - starting with their 1971 debut and concluding with the world premiere of their upcoming “Exotic Creatures of the Deep.”
It’s unlikely Sparks will play Boston anytime soon. The band hasn’t performed in the hub since its Paradise gig in May 1982 in support of its “Angst in My Pants” album. And there’s no U.S. release date for the new album, which comes out in Europe on May 20.

Libertines duo reunite to pen stage musical

Pete Doherty and his former bandmate Carl Barat have reunited to write a stage musical together, it has been confirmed.
The pair, who were formerly in The Libertines, will write the musical for the Donmar Warehouse in London.
A spokesperson for the theatre, which is located in London's Covent Garden, said its associate director, actor Douglas Hodge, had been working with the songwriting duo.
The project, however, was "very much in the early stages of development, with no deadlines attached", she said.
According to various reports, the musical will document the struggles of an up-and-coming rock 'n' roll band.
Last April, Doherty and Barat performed together for the first time since the Libertines split up in 2004.
Both have new band projects, with Doherty fronting Babyshambles and Barat currently working on his second album for Dirty Pretty Things.
Their one-off reunion in April followed an interview with Barat in which he said he would be "happy" to work with Doherty again "at some point".
At last week's NME Awards, Barat told the Sunday Mirror he had been approached by the Donmar to write a musical with Doherty.
He said: "The theatre wants lots of new songs. We'll probably have to write about 20."

Post-grunge quaternary Hoobastank formed in the Los Angeles suburb of Agoura Hills in early 1994, afterwards vocaliser Doug Robb met guitarist Dan Estrin at a senior high struggle of the bands competition. The deuce chose to get together forces, and afterward adding bassist Markku Lappalainen and drummer Chris Hesse, Hoobastank were natural. While the heavy alternative sounds of acts like Tool and Alice in Chains were primary influences, Hoobastank tempered the gloomier elements of that medicine with a suburban California rut and an optic for availableness. The self-released, clumsily titled They Sure Don't Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To generated solid local hum upon its 1998 release, and before long the dance band had stirred from backyard gigs to shows up and down the Cali slide.

Island took notice and put Hoobastank on the payroll in August 2000, and tours with the likeminded Incubus and flavor-of-the-moment Alien Ant Farm followed. Hoobastank's eponymous debut dropped in November 2001, and the singles "Creep in the Dark" and "Running Away" were hits at radio receiver and MTV. The LP went gold, and the iV supported it with a expedition through Asia and Europe that summer. By former 2003, the band was back in the studio, egg laying blue tracks for its sophomore effort. They then played a few dates in June and July, merely were forced to invalidate the residual of the ball club tour when Estrin was injured in a junky motorbike accident. The guitar player was back on his feet by October, and Hoobastank headed out with the All-American Rejects and Ozomatli for the Nokia Unwired hitch.

The quartette offered the lead exclusive "Out of Control" as a free download from its site earlier releasing the full-length The Reason at the end of the class. It showcased a harder-edged vocal performance from Robb. A year after, the Let It Out DVD gathered the band's videos. On a 2005 co-headlining hitch with Velvet Revolver, the band received a chilly reception from some audiences and rumors of a feud between Robb and VR frontman Scott Weiland were shortly filling Internet message boards. "If I Were You," the first single from their 2006 album Every Man for Himself, addressed the whole social occasion.
